Windless spring days, grey-clouded skies, silent streets, deserted squares, dusty parks. Here and there, between the still-inhabited houses with their stately facades and ornate doors, some decaying ghost-houses and glimpses of half-hidden gardens with ancient trees and collapsed gazebos. Everywhere, unpolished pearls of belle époque grandeur: a forgotten Art Nouveau officers’ casino, a neglected Magyar Szecesszió[9] cadet school, an uninhabitable Bauhaus banker’s villa. All of it stratigraphically imprinted by the tragic sequence of recent Hungarian history: world war, Soviet occupation, bankster dictatorship: bullet holes in memory of the months in which the Nyilaskereszt[10] made the Red Army bleed for every meter of the Hungarian capital, crumbling masonry in memory of the decades during which the Népköztársaság[11] let bourgeois neighbourhood crumble into dust and ash and deep potholes in the roads in memory of the last sixteen years, during which Fidesz[12] prioritized private profit over public works. Everywhere, the stamp of the tragic history to be expected in this place: this is the westernmost spur of the Eurasian Steppe, which commences in Manchuria and Mongolia, and also of the Bloodlands bordering the Heartland. In the park, an overgrown memorial stone dedicated to a young communist executed by the Nazis in the spring of ’45. Facing it, a stately garrison church with a memorial plaque dedicated to the resistance fighters killed by the communists in the autumn of ’56. Behind that, the post-apocalyptic scene of a factory ruin left to crumble during the liberal controlled demolition of the national economy after the summer of ’89.
Then, between the forty shades of grey of this dead spring, a sudden gust of colour in a tiny taste of the non-season-bound power that defines all spring but simultaneously surpasses it by far: Viriditas[13] - a superlatively ornate bed of violets. It surrounds the broad base of a high pedestal on which stands the metal sculpture of Prince Géza, highborn Pecheneg child, last Tengri-faithful chieftain, father of the first king of Hungary. Proudly, he stands before his banner, fluttering in the western wind. Severely, his slit eyes gaze back to where his people came from: the Great East. The banner, planted firmly in the hard soil, represents the essence of the Honfoglalás, approximately translatable as ‘home taking’, but with the concrete meaning of the irreversible landnám[14] by which a nomadic people finally settles down on a select patch of land after a thousand miles’ quest. Where a people tills the field and lays out a garden, feeds the land with water and spills its blood for the soil, there a people becomes grounded and part of Earth itself. Thus, this simple bed of violets, painstakingly hoed every workday morning and carefully watered every summer afternoon, represents the unbreakable bond between the Hungarians and their homeland, now over a millennium old. Directly to the east and south of the violets, commences the first short grass of the dry steppe land called the Puszta (Slavic for ‘Emptiness’), pristine patches of which still survive west of Debrecen and north of Szegedin. Once upon a time, that Great Hungarian Plain almost seamlessly stretched on into the Wallachian Plain, the Pontic-Caspian Steppe (forgotten Cimmeria, Scythia, Sarmatia) and the Kazach Steppe - an endless space of slightly undulating fields, interspersed with patches of swamps and salt lakes and, almost imperceptibly, giving way to the ancient Silk Road deserts to the south. Even here, in its final outlier, scorching summers and freezing winters still shape the lives of the peoples of the plain. Never will the Hungarian heart forget the boundless steppe that birthed the nation: even if the Hungarian outer eye is sometimes forced to turn west to face the towering tyranny of money power and culture usurpation, the Hungarian inner eye will ever look east. From there, sooner or later, conquering armies will appear again, turn the tide of history and wipe clean the Pannonian Plain. Secretly, the Hungarians’ original animating spirit is the same that drove forward armies of Attila, Batu Khan, Nogai Khan and Stalin, incarnating the Scourge of God that brings low the conceit of Western Empire. And that spirit, driven underground this April, remains rooted in the land.

The Hungarian katamorphosis[15]
The imprint of history still shapes the faces of many Hungarians. The faces of the oldest show the sufferings of the 20th Century, born with dignity, and their eyes, which have seen things that scarcely any modern-Western person can even imagine, still show the lights that were lit by the youth experience of authentic (pre-Vatican II) spirituality, (pre-democratic) governance and (pre-individualist) ethnicity. The relatively small middle-aged cohort, i.e. the cohort that physically and mentally survived the neoliberal catastrophe (economic shock therapy, demographic implosion, socio-cultural alienation) of the ’90s (when many fled into permanent emigration, alcoholic forgetfulness and the deep Danube), is characterized by another kind of dignity: a quiet, discrete fatalism that allows for a life without illusions. The latter is the generation that ensured, also in its electoral behaviour, the sixteen-year-long protection of the nation against the worst excesses of globalist liberalism, viz. ethnic replacement (mass immigration enabled by ‘open border’ policies and ‘humanitarian asylum’ narratives), antinatalism (family life destruction enabled by ‘women rights’ and ‘LBGTQ’ policies) and imperialist predation (foreign wars of aggression such as those attendant on projects ‘Israel’ and ‘Ukraine’).
The imprint of history, however, is lacking in the overwhelmingly blank faces of the younger cohorts, i.e. those that grew up during the quiet lull of the ’00s and ’10s, profiting from a combination of relative social security, economic prosperity and personal freedom. Throught these cohorts, collectively characterized by weak personality structures, artifically raised expectation patterns and fatally impaired identity awareness, Eastern Europe has now become susceptible to the same psycho-social malaise that has already been plaguing Western Europe for two entire earlier generations: culture nihilism, resulting in a collective state of malignant narcissism and mirrorred in an Umwertung aller Werte in the private as well as the public sphere (‘relativist secularism’ instead of Christian morality, ‘personal freedom’ instead of work ethics, ‘calculating citizenship’ instead of national solidarity, etc.).[16] The most important carrier spreading this malaise from Western to Eastern Europe is the demographic cohort that lacks an adult and kinetic experience with the Eastern Bloc era and the following neoliberal catastrophe.
History teaches that the long-term three TY-combination - security, prosperity and liberty - is fatal to the great mass of any people: soft lives create soft brains, good times create bad characters and borderless comfort female zones create male-incompatible matriarchies, with the inevitable result that subsequent times and lives will be hard and bad. This inconvenient truth is probably more applicable to the contemporary ’Collective West’ - the Golden Calf that has been worshipped by the ex-Eastern Bloc for over forty years now - than to any other decomposing imperial construct since the Great Whore heydays of ancient Rome and Babylon. The ’Golden Billion’ of the Western Neo-Atlantis empire, comprising Western Europe, the overseas Anglosphere plus the US-controlled outposts in Asia (Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Israel), is physically trapped in an infrastructural (techno-industrial) bubble, maintained by the concrete control mechanisms of the globalist hegemony (energy source control, usury banking control, petrodollar tribute), and psychologically in a superstructural (ideological-narrative) bubble, maintained by the cognitive control mechanisms of that same hegemony (fictitious ’news’, idiocratic ’education’, counterfeit ’science’).[17] The superstructural bubble is the necessary counterpart to the infrastructural bubble: the former stabilizes the latter by maintaining the necessary collective cognitive dissonances (entirely fictitious human rights and speech freedom narratives at home vs very real necropolitical and genocidal actions abroad) and psychological projections (non-Western leaders named as the new Hitlers even as Western leaders act as such). The many colour revolutions, disinformation campaigns and election manipulations perpetrated by the globalist power apparatus (EU, NATO, MICCIMATT) in ex-Eastern Bloc Europe (Serbia, Moldavia, Romania, Hungary, Armenia) can only be properly understood against the background of the region’s specific demographic reality that was alluded to earlier: globalist information selection, narrative control and performative drama are purpose-tailored to capture that region’s psycho-socially receptive younger cohort. The systematic cognitive capture of Hungarian young adults preceded the globalist Reconquista of Hungarian politics in April 2026. From this perspective, the long-drawn-out sixteen-year battle of the Orbán government to return Hungary to the Hungarians was a lost cause from the very outset: a superstructural (ideological, cultural) revolution is impossible without an infrastructural (economic, social) revolution and the Fidesz regime was never willing to match its words with deeds. A radical political break (exiting the EU and NATO), a radical economic struggle (banishing globalist banksters and vulture capitalists) and a radical cultural revolution (blocking Hollywoodian fake history and digital pornification) remained far outside the comfort zone and intellectual capacity of the Fidesz power complex, which basically belonged in the same category of political light-weights that comprises the AFD in Germany, the RN in France, the UKIP in Britain and the FVD in the Netherlands. Thus, formally, the defeat of Fidesz was a mere political theatre performance, guaranteeing a smooth transition, and substantially, it was a mere ‘regression to the mean’ of Atlanticist parliamentarianism.[18] Thus, Hungary returned to the nihilist-liberal political ‘factory settings’ of the Western mainstream.

The later publication of the English-language translation of this essay - later because not every writer yet entrusts his writings to ‘AI’ algorithms - has the advantage of providing its author with the benefit of some hindsight. In the mere two months that passed since the year’s Hungarian April regression, the country was quickly covered by the globalo-satanist tide. The satano-globalist Gleichschaltung process is progressing smoothly in the economic, social and cultural sphere - and doing so in predictable sequence. First, the overdue pay-out of the EUSSR’s Judas reward funds, well-deserved by Hungary’s political traitor class, drove the Forint to historic heights (added benefits: handicapping the country’s export economy and overpricing the coming Euro introduction), then, the handsome pay-off of the UEFA Cup, delighting Hungary’s tourist pimp class, brought the barbaric-but-well-heeled ‘football fan’ horde to lucratively ravage grande dame Budapest and, finally, there is, still to come at the end of June, the ultimate prize, delighting Hungary’s elite culture class: the triumphant return of the LGBTQ+ Pride March to Budapest’s thus-far rainbow-free streets. In the foreign political arena, Hungary’s Gleichschaltung process has been equally rapid: the new government has approved the EUSSR’s 90 billion Euro ‘Ukraine loan’ (late April), returned the Orbán-seized 35 million Euro ‘Kiev gold’ (early May) and unblocked the EUSSR-membership path for the Zelensky regime (mid-June). Thus, to all intents and purposes, Hungary has reverted to the ‘mainstream’ EUSSR position, favouring all-out geopolitical confrontation with the Eurasian East and fulfilling Orbán’s election warning that a vote for his enemies was a vote for WWIII.
Of course, Hungary’s reversion to mainstream satano-globalism is still incomplete. It will take the new government some time to import sufficient numbers of ‘refugees’ to turn the still safe and clean cities and towns of Hungary into the Third World hellholes that their Western European counterparts have turned into over the last four decades. It will take time to break down the still-intact, even thriving family structures and social solidarities of Hungary and bring them down to the level of social and cultural degradation now common in the West. But during these two short months, there are plenty of signs that satano-globalist life realities will be implemented smoothly - perhaps faster than many think. During the spring holidays, reconnaissance units of prospective non-Western settlers, ex-asylum and now-West-based, are roaming across Hungary, looking for early ‘business’ and ‘real estate’ opportunities to economically exploit across the politically now-disarmed country. During the weekend night, for the first time after many years of Orbán’s clamp-down on prostitution, teenage hookers are quietly but confidently making their comeback to the streets of Budapest - undoubtedly, the city will quickly recover its lost status as ‘porn capital of Europe’ as well. Undoubtedly, the revenge of the satano-globalist elite on hapless Hungarian masses will be thorough: it will not lightly forget its sixteen-year humiliation by the Hungarian voters. Perhaps, however, there is hope for the Hungarian people: the extreme vengefulness with the satano-globalist elite treats its worst enemies (currently: resurgent Russia, revolutionary Iran, recalcitrant Cuba) may prove its undoing if it overreaches itself in Hungary. If it acts too greedily, too rapidly and too arrogantly, it may yet be shipwrecked on the shoals of victory. Still, there are many Hungarians of good will and sound mind, unseen by the triumphant globalist expat class and unheard in the satanist social media bubble: they are still living the real life of their nation and they may yet prevail and reconquer their land - if only they wake up in time.

The recent satano-globalist Reconquista of the Pannonian Plain may have been predictable as a political ’regression to the mean’, but it also marks a historical crossroads of great importance for the whole of the system-critical opposition of the West, i.e. the sum total of authentic political dissidents, from the Marxist left to the Hitlerian right and from anarcho-communists to parliamentary pragmatists. At this crossroads, the Hungarian Fidesz implosion coincides with the Argentinian Milei implosion and the American MAGA implosion: the larger satano-globalist power structure within which these imploding ’populist’ movements previously functioned as useful controlled opposition and political lightning conductors is undergoing a rapid transformation that now renders its kinetic power exercise incompatible with the etiquette of civilized politics and diplomacy. This larger power structure can no longer afford the luxuries of either the legal fictions of international law, law of war and civil rights or the political fictions of separation of powers, fair elections and freedom of speech. Starting with the early ’20s start of the Great Reset, it has been gradually forced to discard its mask, up to the point that it is starting to show its real face, revealing to be what ’conspiracy theory’ dissidents - using rather naive terms such as ’combine’, ’globalists’ and ’hostile elite’ - argued that it was all along: an instrument for the exercise of satan’s power on Earth. Probably this instrument is currently best described by the older term ’Zionist Occupation Government’, which accurately shows it to be directed towards an eschatological version of ’Zion’ that apparently necessitates the literal occupation of the West: increasingly, the Western peoples are now becoming aware of the foreign - even alien - nature of the occupation regime that they are subject to, because the power elite always acts in opposition to their subject peoples’ interests and it now does so in blatantly open fashion. This ongoing ’revelation’ is evidenced domestically in the growing number of ex-mainstream of journalists (Tucker Carlson, Candice Owens, etc.) that have come to openly recognize this state of affairs and internationally in the growing use of the term ’Epstein Elite’ to describe the ruling cabal of the West, which is currently switching from the mere disdain of the interests of the Western peoples to the active pursuit of their destruction.
The Great Reset’s first program phase (2020-21: ’Covid’, ’BLM’, ’Biden’) was primarily domestic and still user-friendly, softly packaged in pseudo-science, psy-ops and censorship.[21] The use of cognitive anaesthesia, however, was already considerably lessened during the Great Reset’s second phase (2022-25: Project Ukraine, Naqba 2.0, Neo-ISIS Syria), which was characterized by mass conditioning for imperialist neo-primitivism (’1984’-intensity mass media hate sessions with Putin starring as Goldstein, In der Strafkolonie-level[22] mass media desentization with the cities of Gaza Strip as inverse Jamarat[23]). At the start of the Great Reset’s third phase of peak-necropolitics (2026-), the Western power elite sheds all scruples and pretences: now, it unashamedly projects its own private-sphere Umwertung aller Werte into the public and institutional spheres with the introduction of anti-morality and anti-ethics both at home (Epsteinocracy, viz. the normalization of child abuse and human sacrifice)[24] and abroad (Iran War, viz. the normalization of blatant aggressive wars and deliberate war crimes).[25] From an eschatological perspective, this satano-accelerationist trajectory is entirely predictable, reflecting an archetype-referencing (thus subliminally effective) power play featuring the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, jointly implementing the Great Reset. Pestilence (the white horse) is followed by War (the red horse), is followed by Hunger (the black horse), is followed by Death (the pale horse). This satano-accelerationist playbook is obviously meant to bring about an ’inverse revelation’: it does not aim at the Heavenly Jerusalem and the Kingdom of Heaven, but at the earthly anti-Jerusalem (anti-nominian Greater Israel) and the empire of the Beast (anti-Christian techno-totalitarianism), i.e. the Hell on Earth follows the fourth horseman. Along this trajectory, aim and process coincide. In the words of Orwell: ’The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.’[26]
Now that the veils which previously covered the satano-globalist project have fallen, the political institutions and public media that it supported thus far are no longer accessible to authentic dissidents. Now, any so-called ‘opposition’ that still operates within the now wholly compromised frameworks of ‘parliamentary democracy’, ‘mass media’ and ‘public debate’ has automatically disqualified itself: it must be either coopted, infiltrated or Stockholm Syndrome psychotic. This gives the few authentic dissidents now still standing with the West a clear advantage: the current ‘tearing of the veil’ exposes and deposes of the political grifters, including the legion of ‘populist’ puppets and ‘charismatic’ quislings feeding off the corpse of the Western body politic, and their deadweight ideologies, including the ‘civic’ nationalism that reduces the value of Western passports to that of parking licenses and atomizing ‘libertarianism’ that promotes profit-driven individualism over value-driven communal solidarity. Thus, a dead tide moment is being reached in the life-and-death struggle between thus far apparently triumphant satano-globalism and the still partially hidden worldwide resistance, both geopolitically, with ZOG’s foreign projects (Neo-Khazaria, Neo-Zion) reaching the imperial overstretch moment, and metapolitically, with ZOG’s domestic Flucht nach Vorn into techno-totalitarian overreach (Palantir panopticon, CBDC mark of the beast). In a certain sense, both phenomena complement each other: the moment at which the globalist tide reaches its outer high-water mark, crashing against the shore of Eurasian resistance, coincides with the moment that its inner (infrastructural and superstructural) lifestyle bubble becomes unstable. The lifestyle bubble of the Western masses becomes unsustainable when it comes into contact with the kinetic realities of fuel shortages, supply chain breakdowns, near-hyper-inflation price rises, social security cutbacks, military call-ups and hospital-train overloads due to ballooning casualty numbers on the new Eastern Front - even ignoring possible Gaza- and Beirut-level Oreshnik damage to the home cities of Fourth Reich Europe. In view of the millions of lives that the Collective West has destroyed, damaged and degraded during decades of imperialist necropolitics abroad, it is only to be expected that the final account to be settled by the satano-globalist power complex will contain a karma component of unprecedented proportions. The age of consequences is rapidly closing in on the Great Babylon created by the Collective West.

With the collapse of its quietist surrogate ideologies and ‘business as usual’ comfort zones, the Western Empire of Lies is fast approaching its expiration date: the techno-totalitarian Flucht nach Vorn of the satano-globalist power elite has reached a point of no return, the existential divide between rulers and ruled has become unbridgeable and the kinetic blowback of its imperial overstretch can no longer be avoided. From the indigenous European peoples, this historical crossroads requires nothing less than a radical worldview revolution - it is up to the few remaining authentic dissidents within the West to spearhead that revolution. In facing this truly daunting task, however, they are unwittingly helped by the satano-globalist power elite itself: by utterly discrediting all the political institutions, social-economic structures and cultural authorities of the West, effectively consigning them to the dustbin of history, they doing its dissident successors a great favour, providing them with a tabula rasa in which radically new - even revolutionary - forms of thought and life are becoming not just possible but necessary. Even an all-Western moment of ethno-re-genesis - the all-Western equivalent of the Icelandic Landnáma and the Hungarian Honfoglalás - is becoming a distinct possibility. History itself is creating space for an entirely new reality that will render irrelevant all previously axiomatic ‘assumptions’, ‘models’ and ‘agendas’. It will be up to the few authentic dissidents remaining in the West, viz. those that have survived the ‘natural selection’ of all accumulated Great Reset challenges (‘Covid’, ‘Ukraine’, ‘Gaza’, ‘T0 rump’, ‘Iran’), to push the envelope of political philosophy to the point of rising to that ultimate challenge. An important element of that push will be to apply a sufficiently wide array of consciousness-expanding perspectives (e.g. bricolage techniques, interdisciplinary experiments, artistic boundary crossings).
In this respect, one useful line of thought to re-define, re-experience and re-invent Western ethnos is to pursue the Prägnanz Prinzip, which emphasizes the fact that the experience of being part of an ethnos (German Volk, Russian Narod) refers to an essentially different reality than can be gathered from the mere description of any of the quantifiable and qualifiable constituent parts of that experience and that being. The emic reality of being part of an ethnos, including its life-world quality in the presence and its power quantity in the future, cannot be grasped by an etic calculus of the physical elements and developmental processes that may be scientifically isolated and traced within that ethnos. The emic-etic difference may be understand as analogous to the difference between an actual three-dimensional place and a mere two-dimensional map. Thus, essentially, the life-world of the ethnos is inaccessible to outsiders: the ethnos may be physically damaged and destroyed, but it remains psychologically exclusive and reserved for insiders. The ethnos, which is a living nature-culture organism, presents itself in a specific ‘shape’ or ‘configuration’ against the background of its specific habitat, which includes the other natural organisms sharing its life-world: what arises against this background is a psycho-social Gestalt of a charismatic and numinous ‘halo quality’ that - at least partially - exceeds the rational grasp of both participant insiders and observing outsiders. Nevertheless, there are a number of organizing principles that allow for the recognition of the workings of the Prägnanz Prinzip and resulting ethnos Gestalt: (1) spatial adjacency, (2) form similarity, (3) symmetric order, (4) shared fate, (5) fate experience, (6) continuity and (7) boundary imposition. Each one of these organizing principles has a passive as well as an active aspect: thus, all elements and processes discernible within the ethnos relate to these organizing principles either as subject or as object. At the intersections between the passive and active aspects, the unique singularity of ethnicity is realized in expressions of psycho-physical isomorphs. The active aspect, viz. the will to be (become and remain) a people, is most sharply expressed in the seventh organizing principle: the boundary is actively imposed.[28] In this sense, the ethnos is an expression of collective intent in relation to (primarily) the Earth itself as well as (secondarily) other ethnicities. The Gestalt of any ethnos stands or falls - better: remains or fades - according to their unique bond with their unique parcel of land. Thus, the land where one is born, i.e. the motherland that feeds, and the land where one is home, i.e. the fatherland that is one’s patrimony, precede ethnicity. In this sense, blood and soil are one - and both blind, even as the unborn child in his mother’s womb. Earth is Alma Mater to all.

How many Westerners still know what it means to be home, to be a nation, to incarnate a birthright and to belong to a place? Pretending to be weightless, cocooned in sealed-off aeroplanes and haughtily rising above the few remaining eagles, they thoughtlessly fly across increasingly meaningless borders and countries. Pretending to be boundless, cocooned in sealed-off automobiles and haughtily passing by the few remaining pedestrians, they thoughtlessly speed by increasingly irrelevant villages and hamlets. Pretending to be free-thinking, cocooned in the thought-bubbles of their phones and haughtily dismissing the few remaining book scholars, they thoughtlessly take leave of increasingly remote knowledge substance. Assuming they are exempted from the responsibilities of religion, community and family, these self-styled progressive, enlightened and liberated Westerners live for themselves alone, deeming themselves immune to gravity, detached from the soil and free from the Earth. Only the unborn, waiting in the womb, and the dead, returned to the soil, are still bound to the land and grounded in the Earth. And even these are increasingly less in numbers: the inconvenient fruits of the womb are now customarily cut out instead of carried to term and redundant mortal remains are now customarily incinerated instead of interred. Only the children, beatifically playing in the sand, and the homeless, unquietly sleeping in the outdoors, still have an inkling of what it truly means to be one with the ground, the land and the Earth. And even these are increasingly less in numbers: the children are now mostly placed on safe rubber mats, behind safe plastic gates and in front of safe screens and those deviant adults that still stray outdoors are now protected against themselves with surveillance electronics, police patrols and detention facilities. Even in the densest forests and on the remotest mountains of the West, the modern citizen can and must be online, always within reach and always safe. Obviously, those few neo-hippy girls who still insist on hugging trees and running through forests are mentally disturbed - some sessions of cognitive behavioural therapy will quickly straighten them out. Obviously, those few neo-survivalist boys who still insist on disappearing ‘Into the Wild’ are neo-Nazis - proper probation officer support will deradicalize them soon enough. Soon enough, their youthful energy and illusions will evaporate when they return into the artificial womb of LED-light, fake food and fake ideas. The vapours of old-earth thinking only remain hanging around a handful of eccentric misfits, dissident contrarians and forgotten exiles, but there is none to notice them: after all, the social media algorithm, the media Overton Window, the book publication name flags and the intelligence service omertà all serve to protect the intellectual comfort zone of the law-abiding and ever-orthodox denizens of Brave New World. Together with all the other unheard - the unborn, the dead, the children, the homeless, the New Age girls and the Alt-Right boys - these old-earth thinkers are the only ones that can still remember our old Alma Mater. And a few of these even remember the high love-science that was born from her: Geosophy.[30]
The author’s place of exile, Hungary, is far from his homeland, the Netherlands. It is far indeed if once the illusions of modern Western bubble life are existentially shed: without the counterfeit travel modes of the aeroplane and the automobile and without the fake cosmopolitan concepts of ‘double nationality’ and ‘world citizenship’, it would require many weeks of walking, even in full youth and health. But when he touches the Hungarian soil, he is transported back to the Dutch soil in an instant: the difference between grainy sand and sticky clay, between dusty dryness and dripping clots, between empty steppe with skittish birds and green pastures with lazy cows. Here, sharpness of the air and lots of light - and star-filled open skies at night. There, wet vapours and grey half-light - and low cloud cover at night. Here, the principle of the Land rules supreme: the ocean-access is far away in land-locked Hungary. There, the principle of the Sea prevails: everywhere and always, the Low Countries are locked in an eternal struggle against the North Sea. The Dutch soil is only partially permanent: in the west and north, a thin row of dunes, behind it, below-sea-level polders with occasional sand ridges and refuge mounds, followed, farther east and south, by some low hill patches set between wide rivers sluggishly flowing into the sea. In the Low Countries, the true soil and rock that other Europeans live on are only found at the eastern and southern edges, with just a whiff of true-continent atmosphere in the old Ardennes. Everywhere in the Low Countries, for weeks on end, low clouds can hang over the waterways, lakes, swamps and pools. The secretive vapours hang across the marshes and meadows, sometimes coalescing in dense fogs, sometimes swirling around in ghostly shapes. But to those who keep vigil long enough, throughout the long, overcast night and into the creeping, watery dawn, the vapours will finally reveal that these marshlands have a master after all: slowly, the vapours take shape, coalescing into a figure, unclear at first, until, suddenly, it arises from the ground. There it stands, towering tall and ramrod straight, now clearly delineated against the grey sky in blonde and blue colours: the Dutch people. Luctor et emergo.
